JESUS DOJO SESSIONS ON COMMUNITY STARTING MAY 24
WEDNESDAY MAY 24, 6:30 P.M. at
3166 25th St. San
Francisco.
POTLUCK
SHARED DINNER
A quick
note about this coming Wednesday. We will begin our exploration
into
the commands of Jesus
related to community. Nate, Adam and I, with some
help
from Kristen, have taken
a look at the relational commands and tried
to
organized them into 7
themes.
They are the
following:
FORGIVENESS:
Which includes "Do not judge;" and "Forgive one
another"
ABANDON: "Give
to the one who asks of you and do not turn away from the
one
who wants to borrow from
you...If someone strikes you on the right
cheek,
turn the other
cheek... If someone forces you to go one mile, go
two
miles..."
HONOR:
This one involves commands to fulfil obligations to family,
employer,
and
government."
ENCOURAGEMENT:
These are the commands related to "the one anothers;"
the
Eucharist and meeting
together."
ONENESS:
"May they be one as we are
one."
HUMILITY: "The
greatest among you will be your servant... At a banquet,
take
the lowest seat...,
"etc.
LOVE: "Love your
neighbor... Love your enemies and pray for them... No
one
has greater love than
this, that thhey lay down their life for a
friend."
So, on
Wednesday we will be exploring the teaching of Jesus on Unity
and
oneness. See particularly
the prayer of Jesus in John 17 " 20"My prayer
is
not for them alone. I pray
also for those who will believe in me
through
their message, 21that
all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in
me
and I am in you. May they
also be in us so that the world may believe
that
you have sent me. 22I
have given them the glory that you gave me, that
they
may be one as we are
one: 23I in them and you in me. May they be brought
to
complete unity to let the
world know that you sent me and have loved
them
even as you have loved
me. 24"Father, I want those you have given me to
be
with me where I am, and to
see my glory, the glory you have given me
because
you loved me before
the creation of the world. 25"Righteous Father,
though
the world does not
know you, I know you, and they know that you have
sent
me. 26I have made you
known to them, and will continue to make you known
in
order that the love you
have for me may be in them and that I myself may
be
in
them."
The goal of the
Jesus dojo is that we would come up with practical
and
tangible ways we intend
to obey the commands of Jesus. So, on
Wednesday,
come prepared to
discuss what it might mean for us to "be one" as Jesus
and
the father are one? What
could we each do over the following week to
seek
that
oneness?
