A DOJO IS LITERALLY "A PLACE WHERE ONE LEARNS THE WAY" OUR GOAL IS TO ESTABLISH A NETWORK OF PROJECTS AND RELATIONSHIPS IN WHICH PEOPLE ARE ABLE TO LEARN THE WAY OF JESUS WHO ARE WE?   We are people living in the bay Area who have THE FOLLOWING in common:   * Contexts that provoke us to consider the essential message of the Scriptures and historic Christian faith and their applications in an increasingly post Christendom society.   * A growing understanding of the reality and present availability of the kingdom of God.   * Personal commitment to negotiate a life of apprenticeship to Jesus.   * Passion to help other people learn to live as student followers of the master in every dimension of their lives. WE BELIEVE THAT TRANSFORMATION HAPPENS THROUGH:   * New Information * New experiences * Rigorous self-examination * Intentional group encounter * New behaviors, habits and decisions. * Guidance and mentoring and example * Pain, suffering and perseverance * The work of the Spirit. We are designing an experiential curriculum that acknowledges these elements of transformation. The curriculum will be practical and action oriented-- including practical projects, integrative assignments and necessary steps of obedience.   We believe there are at least three basic STEPS to kingdom transformation:   (1) Developing a vision and motivation for apprenticeship informed by the reality and goodness of the kingdom of God.   (2) Learning to obey the ethical commands of Jesus in the details of every day life; (general topical areas including money & stuff, relationships, reconciliation, sexuality, family & work, etc.)   (3) Cultivating life practices that helped the person stay connected to the power and opportunities of the Spirit. NEED   A more holistic, missional and integrated vision of life in the kingdom of God requires a formation process that diverges from those commonly employed in existing religious structures. Simply put, teaching people to believe is a different task than teaching people to obey. A distinctive curriculum, leadership model and preferred outcomes are required.   Many of us have been working in limited isolation trying to help form people in the way of Jesus—and we would all benefit from the morale, shared wisdom and best practices of a common platform and partnership.   PROJECT   GOAL: Establish a local/global generative order of people committed to a making a life in the ways of Jesus, bearing fruit for the glory of God and the good of the world. Our goal is to cultivate a local/ global culture of Christ-following that is catalytic and generative. We are optimistic that people well-formed by the awareness of the kingdom of God and obedient to the specific teachings of Jesus will be fruitful multipliers of the message and reality of the reign of God.    Our goal is to make disciples who are equipped and released to pursue the way of Jesus in their household, vocation and geography. WAYS TO BE INVOLVED:   1. Contribute on the Development Team. We will meet 2 days a month during the summer at a time that is convenient for team members. We are looking for 5-6 people to be on the development team.   2. Lead a DOJO. Working with another teacher, promote and recruit students from your relational network. It could be a small group that already exists. We hope to have 5-10 Dojo’s begin by WINTER 2006.   3. Serve on an Advisory Team for this project. We would send you our work and ask for your feedback and contribution. PHYSICAL NEEDS & DESIRES AND INTAGNGIBLE SPIRITUAL REALITIES   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS RESISTS THE URGE TO OBTAIN POWER AND AUTHORITY IN HUMAN KINGDOMS THROUGH SURRENDER TO GOD   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS RESISTS THE DESIRE FOR STATUS & REPUTATION THROUGH HUMILITY   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS SEEKS THE GOOD OF REVERENT PEOPLE AND DOES NOT DEPEND ON RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS OR GROUPS FOR VALIDATION.   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS IDENTIFIES WITH THE POOR, IMPRISONED, BLIND, AND OPPRESSED AND  SEEKS THEIR LIBERATION AND RESTORATION.   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS COMMUNICATES GOD’S FAVOR FOR ALL PEOPLE.   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS DEALS GRACEOUSLY WITH REJECTION   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS PROCLAIMS REPENTANCE AND FORGIVENESS   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS SEEKS HEALING AND RESTORATION FOR PEOPLE   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS CULTIVATES ONENESS WITH THE CREATOR THROUGH PRAYER & SOLITUDE.   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS FULFILLS THEIR MISSIONAL PURPOSE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OTHERS.   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS MAKES FRIENDS WITH SOCIAL OUTCASTS AND EATS WITH THEM   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS EMBRACES A FREEDOM BEYOND SOCIALLY DETERMINED RELIGIOUS REGULATION   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS EMBRACES AND REJOICES IN SUFFERING, INSULT AND EXCLUSION   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS IS SUSPICIOUS OF COMFORT AND GLOBAL GOOD REPUTATION   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS LOVES THEIR ENEMIES, BLESSES AND PRAYS FOR THEM AND SHOWS MERCY AND DOES NOT RETALIATE.   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS HAS A MERCIFUL NON-JUDGEMENTAL APPROACH TO PEOPLE THAT IS FREE TO FORGIVE   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS HEARS AND PRACTICES THE TEACHING AND SPEAKS & LIVES IN A WAY THAT IS FRUITFUL AND GOOD.   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS LOOKS FOR GOODNESS AND FAITH IN UNEXPECTED PLACES   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS REVEALS AND CONCEALS THROUGH STORY-TELLING   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS IS NOT AFRAID BUT HAS FAITH IN GOD   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS UTILIZES THE POWER AND AUTHORITY OF GOD.   AN APPRENTICE TO JESUS LIVES READY TO DIE—WITH AN INTENSITY OF SELF DENIAL   AN APPRENTICE OF JESUS WELCOMES
